TECH: The board of Twitter has agreed to a $44bn (£34.5bn) takeover offer from the billionaire Elon Musk.
Mr Musk, who made the shock bid less than two weeks ago, said Twitter had "tremendous potential" that he would unlock. He also called for a series of changes from relaxing its content restrictions to eradicating fake accounts. The firm initially rebuffed Mr Musk's bid, but it will now ask shareholders to vote to approve the deal.
ART: Content creator remade the Netflix intro using $30 of yarn
Kevin Parry, stop motion animator and videographer has gone viral online after he recreated the infamous Netflix intro animation using yarn and cardboard he bought from a craft shop. The project took 3 days overall, involving a custom rig, many hand-cut N’s and over 200 frames.
CULTURE: Beavers have returned to London for the first time in over four centuries
A male and a female were introduced to Forty Hall Farm in Enfield in the north of the city as part of a collaboration between the borough council and Capel Manor College. It is hoped the beavers will help restore biodiversity, as well as mitigate the impacts of flooding, in the local area.
IN THE MARKETS: EU agrees rules to force big tech to rein in illegal content or face huge fines
Digital Services Act can now fine platforms like Facebook, Google and Twitter up to 6% of their global revenue. Large online platforms including Facebook, Google and Twitter will have to do more to tackle illegal content or face multibillion euro fines under a new European Union regulatory regime agreed on Saturday.
IN THE MARKETS: YouTube’s huge miss shows digital media ad market is getting hit hard
During the pandemic, YouTube was one of Alphabet’s prime growth engines as more people were glued to their screens while stuck at home. The video site continued its rapid expansion last year as the economy reopened and ad spending soared. At least for one quarter, the music has stopped.
